Barmitzvah – Lord's Cricket Ground
The Brief
The client came to us wanting a barmitzvah with a difference! They wanted something outrageous, unique and completely different! They wanted it to be all about the children and fun. Most of all they wanted it to be a barmitzvah to remember!
They also wanted a venue that they could keep the children all in one place together that had no pillars or divides in the room obstructing views or movement. The hotel had to have fabulous food and excellent service.
The Venue
After putting our heads together we came up with the unique and very different idea of a funfair. Guests would be entertained by many games and shows reflecting a fun fair theme.
The reception room was separated from the main room by big oak doors that concealed the main room perfectly until it was time for it to be revealed. The sophisticated feel of the hotel and the efficient staff and service were also major selling points for our clients.
The Party
Guests entered the venue, weaving their way around the entrance laid out by us, with nothing in mind of what to expect. As they were entering shouts of ‘Roll up, roll up’ could be heard as our very own Funfair Host reeled guests in.
Upon entering the main area, among gasps of surprise and delight, all guests were given personalised backpacks, complete with a map of the fair, in which they could carry any winnings. Nobody knew where to start, they were spoilt for choice! The room had been laid out with a large bouncy castle and slide, stalls with games where you could win toys lined both sides of the room along with a popcorn machine, Punch & Judy, car stimulator rides, balloon modellers, magicians and their very own pick-pocket – Keith the Thief!
In the centre an amphitheatre had been resurrected with large TV screens and stage and our very own disco and dance floor. Funfair attendants wandered around with trays of appetising canapés to suppress any guest’s early hunger.
At 1.30pm everything stopped and guests were asked to be seated in the amphitheatre. Once seated there was a welcome speech first by the parents followed by a speech and song by the younger sister. Following that was a show by Uptown Events very best magician assisted by the older sister and then all guests got involved with the traditional Israeli dancing. It was then time for the food court to open!
We had brought in the best kosher caterers in London who served up some of the most appetising food! There were burgers and hot dogs keeping with the funfair theme, then there were also stands with noodles, beef casserole, shepherd’s pie and mini fish and chips. Guests devoured it quickly before returning to more game playing. Dessert was then served in the form of canapés offered around in sumptuous amounts! There were never ending trays of the most fantastic, different colours and types of desserts ever seen. The coffee bar was then opened followed quickly by an ice cream factory with every flavour ice cream under the sun and a crepe stand with fresh crepes being made to your personal tase right in front of you. Guests were spoilt for choice!
Games then resumed and guests gleefully enjoyed having a game on everything. With the event drawing to a close it was time again for the guests to all make their way to the amphitheatre. Here a video of the barmitzvah boy was shown on the large screens followed by his speech. Guests reluctantly started to make their way home, trying to make their last few minutes there last as long as possible. As they left each child was given a scooter, each woman a scented candle, each male a portable charger.
Everyone repeatedly said all day what a fantastic day it was and so different and unique compared to the usual structured Barmitzvahs. Everyone had so much fun, adults as well as children! It’s fair to say that this Barmitzvah will be remembered for a long time yet…
